It has been a "hot minute" as one of my daughters would say! Sorry for not posting in a bit. Here is an update:
We took a trip to see our daughter and son-in-law and our caretaker texted to say a couple of our sheep were missing. We only have three and for them to not be with our main matriarch, Kevin, was very strange. A couple of days passed and still no sheep.
Kevin, our matriarch, just hung out with the horses. A couple days later we get a phone call from our caretaker. She had found Kevin out in the pasture ripped apart. I will spare you the gory details but she was killed by a pack of coyotes.
We were pretty bummed as Kevin was the coolest sheep! She would eat out of your hand, head butt the dogs if they were being dumb, and always looking for a treat. She was awesome.
We returned late from our trip and proceeded to look for her in the pasture. It was close to 11:30pm. We located her and proceeded to bury her. I am sure the neighbors were wondering about us. It was almost midnight and we are out in one of our larger pastures with our tractor digging a hole! Don't mind us folks! Just burying a sheep!
We are now down three sheep. Two days later I found the remains of Charlotte. We have never found Baby Kevin and now we are covered in several inches of snow and probably will not find her. In 6.5 yrs of living here we have never had an issue such as this with coyotes. Mother Nature can be pretty brutal. RIP Kevin, Baby Kevin and Charlotte. You were a wonderful part of the Cedar J Ranch.
