RIP Henry the Rooster

**** Warning ****** This post contains a photo of a deceased animal. Nothing gory but thought I should warn you. Life on a small ranch includes death too.

Last night I went out to do chores and saw a lifeless body on the ground in the upper yard of one of our coops. ( we have two coops with two separate yards- we have a thing for chickens)

Henry

Upon further investigation I realized the lifeless body was Henry, one of our roosters. Yesterday morning he was crowing and even attempted to come at me while I was filling the food bins. I even remember thinking how good he looked after he had been sick just a couple weeks ago.

In the last two weeks Henry had really come around. He was looking great and we were about to allow all the chickens to run together again because we knew Henry could handle himself. We are not sure what killed him. He hadn't been dead long when I found him. He was a big bird so maybe his heart just stopped. Chickens just die randomly for no reason sometimes.

Henry was not my favorite by any means. I don't like animals that think they need to attack me when I am the one feeding them and providing shelter and a comfy coop to live in. I hated to see him so sick though, and when he bounced back it was really good to see. He was actually a beautiful rooster and took good care of the ladies.

Now Gordon will have to take over the rooster duties. I will keep you posted on how that goes.

Rest in peace Henry. Thanks for being a part of the Cedar J.
